Cream have announced that German trance star Paul Van Dyk will be headlining Thursday nights at Amnesia again this summer alongside fellow superstar trance DJs Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell and a one off party featuring Above & Beyond.
Swedish house star Eric Prydz has also been confirmed for six dates and speaking about the residency this week predicted Anmesia will be ‘the place to visit this year’.
“Cream Amnesia is the highlight of Ibiza,” he said, “It’s all about Amnesia because of the people who go there and the DJs they have lined up this summer,” he claimed.
The Swedish star’s commitment to six Balearic gigs suggest he’s finally defeated his fear of flying which forced him to cancel gigs in Australia and Malta as recently as two years ago, when he was unable to physically board planes.
Speaking the day after Eric cancelled a 4,000 capacity sold out party in Malta in September 2008, his management explained he started to ‘panic about panicking’ and added that he was also afraid of travelling by boat or ferry.
“If a 747 flew from London to Malta, he would have been there. It’s just a psychological thing. He feels he would panic on a small plane,” his manager told the Times Of Malta.
“Since Malta is an island he was scared that he would not have another way to leave if he is hit by another panic attack, since he would not be able to catch a train,” he added.
Eric is also due to fly to Miami in two week’s time to attend the Winter Music Conference, though could face travel disruption following the news that British Airways (BA) staff are striking for several days immediately before and after the event.
UK superstar producer Steve Mac Twittered ‘BA STRIKES MIAMI NIGHTMARE’ on hearing the news and though he later revealed to Skrufff that he’s personally not going this year, predicted chaos for many of his UK based DJ peers.
“The strike will have a massive impact on the DJs for sure; most of my DJ friends fly BA because they are worldwide,” he explained.
“I hope everybody gets there OK but surely with this strike there will be a massive shortage of seats and you will probably have to take out a mortgage to get one. Shame on you, BA staff,” he complained.
“I love going to Miami, i have had some of the best times over there with friends that I don’t get to see very often, my decision not to go this year was made at the last minute,” Steve continued. “I don’t see my family enough so instead of getting drunk every night and partying like it’s the end of the world, I’m gonna’ take a chill pill and sit in the sun and watch the world go by before I get back to a full on 2010.”
“Do I feel any sympathy for the strikers? To be honest they are lucky that they have jobs at the moment,” he added, “It’s the bloody unions,” said Steve.
Dave Spoon appeared to endorse Steve’s predictions with a succinct Twitter message soon after the strike was announced. “Thanks BA,” he Twittered, adding “Twats.”
