“One of the most promising artists for 2011″ as described by MTV, Max Vangeli has grabbed the attention of Electronic Music fans worldwide. With an upcoming debut album featuring collaborations with heavyweights Steve Angello and the UK’s Example amongst others, this year is promising to be his biggest to date.
2010 was a pivotal year for Max Vangeli as he made his international debut, with multiple chart-topping remixes and extensive touring across the world, as well as being named one of the ‘Top 5 DJs to watch in 2011′ following the Top 100 DJ poll. He has played at some of the world’s top venues and festivals, such as Cocoon in Frankfurt, Mansion in Miami, Avalon in Los Angeles, Creamfields in the UK, and Mysteryland in Amsterdam.
His massive remix of Pendulum’s ‘The Island’ with Steve Angello and AN21 was named ‘Hottest track in the world’ by BBC Radio One’s Zane Lowe and reached Number 3 in the global Beatport sales chart. This was not the first time Max’s productions shined on Radio One’s airwaves as his other tunes instantly became Pete Tong’s favorites, with 2010’s “Swedish Beauty” being named an “Essential New Tune”.
Max will debut the first single off his upcoming album, “People of the Night,” during this year’s Miami Music Week. Watch out for Max Vangeli in your city as he has an extensive world tour in the works.
Beatsmedia: Tell us about your first gig?
Max Vangeli: Haha it was Icon Ultra Lounge in San Francisco I played for 15min because the other DJ had to go somewhere. I was very nervous and don’t think I got paid.
Beatsmedia: The biggest lesson you have learnt about the EDM scene since then?
Max: Hmmm that if you don’t produce, you lose!
Beatsmedia: Your music has been supported by the likes of Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta and Tiesto. What qualities do you think makes your productions such standouts?
Max: I think its because I am a perfectionist at everything I do, plus it takes time to learn what really works on the dance floor. We always build my records around melodies, that’s key!
Beatsmedia: How would you describe your sound?
Max: Melodic Progressive Big Room Sexy House!
Beatsmedia: You have worked on a lot of productions with AN21 in recent times. What makes your partnership so successful?
Max: I think its because we all love it too much. If you have 2 people in love with their jobs its hard to stop that force.
Beatsmedia: We hear you also have a debut album coming out, what can we expect from this release?
Max: Lots of sexy melodic stuff and some very nice collaborations with the likes of Tiesto, Steve Angello, Example, Dirty South and many more!
Beatsmedia: When can we expect a sneak peak?
Max: We are hoping to release the next single in less than a month. The rest you will have to wait :) Pete Tong recently premiered two first singles, you can check out the previews on my Youtube Channel.
Beatsmedia: Turning our attention to your gigs, you have also performed together with AN21 around the world . Can you share with us your most memorable moment together on stage?
Max: It has to be Sensation White Amsterdam. I think it was like 55k plus people, just crazy. It’s a moment in life where you have to stop and think, wow is this really happening?
Beatsmedia: What makes a live performance outstanding in your eyes?
Max: Energy! Its always about the energy you give the crowd and the one you get back.
Beatsmedia: Who would you most like to collaborate with in the future?
Max: Well we are doing a lot right now, Tiesto, Steve Angello, Example, also working with Dirty South, Kim Fai and Moguai.
Beatsmedia: We hear you’ll be spending some time in Ibiza this summer. Whats your favourite spot in Ibiza and why?
Max: Pacha of course. Swedish House Mafia Mondays are massive and it’s a true honour to be playing with them!
Beatsmedia: Having toured every corner of the globe, where do you think is the ‘next Ibiza’?
Max: Hmmm I doubt there will be one with the climate here. Its too damn good! US has been amazing with the festivals and gigs throughout but with the concentration of everything in Ibiza, it can’t compare!
Beatsmedia: What track is your anthem of Summer 2011 so far?
Max: Save The World by Swedish House Mafia of course :)
Beatsmedia: What are your plans for the rest of the summer?
Max: Finish the album, and just keep touring the world, it doesn’t really stop to be honest.
Beatsmedia: Finally, what is your golden piece of advice for newcomers hoping to break into the scene?
Max: Hard Work, and a little bit of creativity!
