Rachel Rixham: For many Artists music starts in the home, how did you come to be so involved with music, where did it all begin for you?

Marc Simz: It all started 19 years ago, we had a lot of “gabber” parties in Holland. I was 16 years old and visited all big raves at the old days. When I became 18 years old, I started to buy turntables and a mixer. I bought my first vinyl ever. Still know which one, “Darkraver – Den Haag Hakkuh

For those unaware of the name Marc Simz, how would you best describe your sound, and can you talk us through the artists if any, you feel have influenced your sound the most?

I can’t describe the Marc Simz sound. I like the uplifting sounds, the techy sound. 128 bpm till 140 bpm. I want to make different tunes. So that’s why I don’t want to make the same sounds as Forbidden City. But people still ask me to do a remix, and ask for a Forbidden City sound. So sometimes I have no choice.. Tiësto inspired me a lot. His sets and productions where always amazing.

Marc Simz is a name that has caught my attention a lot over this last year, through a string of releases and remixes, it seems you have secured your footing in the trance scene. Can you give us a run down of the achievements you are most proud so far?

Firstly of course Forbidden City, all big dj’s around the globe supported this track. But my favorite is the Marc Simz remix of Antony Waldhorn’s Beta. And I’m proud of the rework me and Aerofoil did for Explode, “Xplode 2011″It became number one in the charts.

How did you come to be involved with Black Hole Recordings? Do you feel their continued support and guidance has helped cement your career? In addition how important do you feel it is to have a large label behind you?

I knew one guy from Black Hole Recordings, I sent him my new tune together with Aerofoil. It was the theme song of Emporium Festival, “Knights Templar“. The liked it, so I signed my first Black Hole Recordings contract. I was really proud of it, because it’s a big label in the Dance industry. They supported me, and gave me the opportunity to remix some great artist.

Moving along, can you tell us about your radio show, where can one catch it and what can we expect?

My radio show, “Simz City” is broadcast every Wednesday from 6pm till 8pm CET at Party107.com. You can expect the real Marc Simz sounds, almost the same as in my live sets. I always play a real trance classic, so you can find a classic of the week in my show. And my favorite tune of that week. But that’s not my only show. I have every third Friday of the month my show on Afterhours FM. Marc Simz monthly top 10. It’s on air from 4pm till 5pm CET. My 10 favorite tunes of the last month.

You’ve recently been given the honor of mixing the 018 edition of the highly acclaimed ‘In Trance We Trust‘ compilation, how did that come about and what do you feel your mix has to offer?

I had a lot of releases on ITWT, and Black Hole thoughts where, now it’s time to do the ITWT compilation by me. So we started sorting tracks. That was not the easiest job. I think my mix is a combination of uplifting progressive, trance and some techtrance.

Upon listening, I was blown away by your relentlessly energetic track list, this compilation features names such as: Yuri Kane, Cosmic Gate, Juventa, Eco, and Raphael Frost not to mention a distinctive collection of remixes to boot. How long did it take you to compile the track list from start to finish and are you happy with the final result?

That was difficult, because people knows me of my techtrance sound, but I’m more an uplifting fan. So I was looking for both sounds, and that was a real hard job to have 15 tracks who represents my sound. We started collecting tracks the day we landed from the airport. We just visited Miami for ULTRA week. So I had a lot of inspiration. But I’m glad with the final result. The feedback is amazing, they sent me messages at Facebook, Twitter and to my website.

What vibe did you ultimately hope to make with this compilation, for me it feels like a dance-floor compilation, yielding peak-time energy and a copious amount of high quality productions, was that your intention?

Yes that was really my intention. Just like my radio shows, it must be the real Marc Simz sound. The same you can expect when people catch me up live at clubs and festivals.

Did you ‘try n test’ any of the tracks on the dance floor before adding them to the compilation, or did you go from your ear only?

Most of the tracks I support, I know that I can play them live in my dj sets. But I dropped all tracks on the dance floor the past months.

Your compilation also features a few unfamiliar names – which is always a treat for the fans – can you tell us which of those names you feel we should watch out for in the future?

At the first place Juventa, this guy is amazing. I think I supported all his releases the last 2 years. And Tellur is also one to watch.

Name 5 tracks from the new compilation that you feel most represents the overall sound of In Trance We Trust 018 .
