Over G – Punch Music

September 27 2010 sees the release of ‘Over-G,’ a 4-track EP of exclusive interpretations of the Oosh classic by some of Israel’s hottest up-and-coming DJ/producers.

This blistering package features the groundbreaking 1999 original from Ishai Adar (Oosh), as well as three new interpretations. First up is the original track, the dark, genre-
defying electronic classic whose whirlpool of sounds and gloomy vocal sounds as relevant and fresh today as it did eleven years ago. The first re-work comes courtesy of Nir Shoshani. Entitled ‘Awake Me’, it turns ‘Over-G’ into tight stirring techno, accompanied by a thick warped bass, before Muzarco drops the funky ‘Light & Shade,’ replete with trademark analogue touches. Finally, Omer strips things back with his version, called ‘My Hands,’ threading an organic melody into a sultry, trippy groove.

In the late 90′s, when the Israeli electronic music scene exploded into the mainstream, an underground current was building in Jerusalem. ‘Over-G’ was a standout track on ‘Her,’ the debut LP from Jerusalem-based electronic artist and pioneer Ishai Adar (Oosh). Adar, founder of cult Israeli experimental band The Top-Hat Carriers, released ‘Her’ in 1999 – a unique blend of techno, house, and ambient/industrial music that is considered a milestone in Israeli dance music. Since then Adar has continued cultivating his unique vision and craft, composing and producing audio for art performances, dance and films. Among his work is the soundtrack for the 2007 Academy Award nominee, “Beaufort”.

Created by a small team of dedicated Tel Aviv-based DJs, Punch Music has been accumulating musical and technical experience since the late 90s. Label manager, Amotz Tokatly explains: “Punch is releasing music that is independent of trends, still dancefloor relevant and most importantly, up to date in this ever-evolving genre.”

With ‘Over-G’ Punch Music hope to not only introduce this seminal track to the wider world, but also show their love, gratitude and respect to Adar and the Jerusalem underground scene as a whole.
