Review: Ninesh Babu – Eighty One EP (Nueva Digital)

Release Date: December 13th, 2011
Reviewed by: Rachel Rixham

New to Nueva Digital, and making a fantastic début with the ‘Eighty One EP’, is one of Dubia’s freshest exports: Ninesh Babu.

With the title track, Ninesh has captured the old school synths and sounds of the early ’80s, updated them, and carefully crafted an enjoyably absorbing progressive house number; one which sounds decidedly new rather than old school revival. ‘Eighty One’ grabs your attention right from the start and deeply engrosses you for the duration, a feel good track that you’ll return to time and again.

‘Mariana’, the second track on the EP, also takes us back to the eighties, but this time it’s the electronic stabs, pops, and build-ups which are reborn and reassembled. Mariana is clean, crisp, familiar yet unique, well produced, all in you can tell Ninesh has really taken the time to polish the track properly. Bearing equally high production levels is the third and final track. ’Taken’ showcases Ninesh Babu’s diversity and is a wonderfully upbeat classic House number that makes you want to move, one for the dancefloor and toe-tappers amongst us.

Ultimately this is a great release, Ninesh Babu has done himself proud and is a fine addition to the Nueva roster. I’m already looking forward to hearing other people’s spin on these tracks, and can’t wait for the remix package in early 2012.
